Alvin Kube

Board President

Alvin Kube joined the board in 2024 and was elected President in June 2024 and is member of the Saulteau First Nation. He is a retired employee of the Ministry of Public Safety, Correctional Service of Canada of 25 years. Alvin has also served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry serving one tour with the United Nations Emergency Force in Nicosia, Cyprus. Coupled with his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, his primary experience was gained through the development, management, and implementation of Aboriginal programs within the federal penal system. His extensive experience allowed for a comprehensive understanding of the impact of colonialism and the positive solutions based on Aboriginal cultural healing. His direct involvement in the practical application and development of Aboriginal programs provides a solid basis on what works in the realm of rehabilitation of Aboriginal offenders. His perspective was gained through various posts including Institutional Parole Officer, Regional Project Officer, Aboriginal Regional Administrator, National Manager of Aboriginal Relations, and Deputy Warden of a Healing Lodge. His passion for development of teams and a highly motivated dedication to positive outcomes provided improved chances for offender success in the community. Alvin possesses the foundational understanding of methods to achieve strategic objectives within bureaucracy and the Aboriginal community. Alvin is a strong believer in success through positive relations. Currently Alvin enjoys working within Aboriginal organizations in Vancouver, BC

Diane Sugars

Director

Diane first became interested in working in the social service sector when, as a single mom, she became homeless for a short time and was unable to access support services. She went on to acquire her baccalaureate and masters in Business now has over 40 years experience working with and assisting non-profit organizations with building their financial viability and improving their internal systems for growth.
Diane has provided leadership as an Executive Director to several organizations throughout her career including: Aboriginal Mother Centre, Kla-how-eya, Chimo Community Services, Learning Disabilities Association and Surrey Foundation. With a strong belief in volunteerism, Diane has sat on many boards including Dogwood ’25 along with it’s co-founders Mike Harcourt and Sid Katz. She was elected on the executive for the Metro Vancouver Aboriginal Executive Council, she became a member of the City of Richmond Intercultural Advisory Council, the Vancouver Mayor’s Task Force for Homelessness and Addictions, and the Homelessness Partnership Strategy, to name a few. She is currently Treasurer for Yucwemínem ne Tsetsítcws-kucw (YneT) Housing Society, a member of CLBC Board, and a member of the City of Langley Accessibility and Inclusion Advisory.
Diane is from Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓ pemc; she gratefully lives and works in Langley on Semiahmoo, Matsqui, Kwantlen, and Katzie territory.
